Ongoing stay in Saudi Arabia, more posts like this! 🙂
This one isn’t a surprise. I like Helsinki. Ever since I studied there, I’ve been going back on a semi-regular basis, meeting new people and getting to see new places. It feels like home to me.
Is it a coincidence this is also in Northern Europe? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe it just has to do with the places I’ve been recently. 🙂
This post is more of a report on whatever I was doing during my last visit. Not a first look at the city, as I do often.
Back on the roadtrip earlier in the year (Midnight Sun Film Festival: one , two) I met a guy I got along with from the bat. We finally got a chance to meet up again in Helsinki.
He lives in a pretty neat location. We went to the nearby Sompasauna for hooours and I heard great stories. No further pictures of that night though. 🙂
By the end of october, nights are taking over again from the eternal light that Northern region enjoys. Look at it from the bright (huhuh..) side: plenty of chances to capture the city in its coloured lights or with the sun setting.
I also happen to know some great people who organize a ton of things. Ever thought about how much fun an old-school nintendo party can be? A lot.
Helsinki is a place in the middle of nature, and nature is in the middle of Helsinki. Parks everywhere, rocks everywhere, sea everywhere. It’s nigh impossible to disconnect from the environment. And I like that.
This was though, as many times, partially a work trip. Good things: I minimize my costs, I barely have to use my own vacation time. Bad things: I have responsabilities to take care of. The balance is important. But I like feeling as if I live there, commuting with (excellent but expensive) public transport like anyone else and especially NOT being stuck in traffic.
As usual, you have to keep track of your location or you end up.. where you shouldn’t be. No biggie. Morning walk!
And as mentioned before, the fall makes for a great backdrop in the evening. One might visit café Regatta by the sea.
Back in August a friend visited Belgium. This time she invited me over for a Halloween party in Turku. I’d barely ever visited it, so I tried to dress up, got on a bus and passed by in a flash. Arrive in the evening, leave in the morning. Responsabilities, you know?
Thanks for the invite, Suvi! 🙂
And by the end of the next day, I was home again.
My non-existent sense of planning fucked me over again. I had a lot more on the to-do list than I could handle in my time, but was happy nonetheless. See you next time.
